 2012 football season
Hello, student athletes....The 2012 football season is upon us.
Now it is time to get to work!
Hopefully, your current season is going well and you are taking care of business on the field; but most importantly, make sure you are taking care of business off the field.
Stay on top of your work and grades in the classroom. Do not let this slip....This is your key to success. Things you should remember and be completing at this time:
1) Have your highlight film/DVD completed and ready for dispersal.
2) Remember to register with the NCAA clearinghouse.
3) Check your core classes. Make sure that you have taken the mandated classes outlined by the NCAA for compliance. These items/responsibilities are very critical in your pursuit of college athletics.
Finding a college or university as a student-athlete is similar to what all your other friends who are students are doing. Just like you, they are applying to colleges of their choosing, as you are.
However, you have a “couple” of other considerations to make along with the other choices in selecting a suitable school. Just as a student has choices to make in choosing a college that “fits” them, a lot goes into the selection process finding a suitable college that fits you. Most schools that you have on your wish list may seem like a good fit but the student-athlete must honestly access their athletic ability, position played and athletic opportunity available at that particular school on that particular team. Keep an open mind.
Are you well suited to compete at the Division I level? Division IAA, II, NAIA or Division III?
Be honest with yourself and your abilities and be keenly aware that not all student athletes are Division 1/IAA players.
It is highly unlikely that your high school Head Coach or position coach will do anything to help you during this season as they are concentrating on the season at hand. Remember, putting together a highlight film is a very important and time consuming undertaking. This task should be treated as your priority. A good highlight reel could mean the difference between getting that exposure and possibly the scholarship you are seeking.
We at STARS are here to help you. We have specialists in the academic and athletic fields to help you in your quest to become a college/university student athlete. Good Luck.
